The Americans with Disabilities Act
Do not be fooled! This law applies to any building with public access. There is no so called grandfather clause. See Below.
Many people make the mistake of thinking that this law does not apply to them or only applies if they do certain types of renovation on a building. The fact is, at any point, if someone complains about your facility to TDLR you will be required to become compliant with current law even if you are not presently renovating. With any renovation of a public space we require an inspection by an outside ADA consultant to ensure that your project is up to code. Any plans will be inspected before they are submitted to the city and a followup inspection will occur prior to the final inspection of the property. This insures that there are minimal changes and less cost in the long run. Not getting an ADA inspection and hoping for the best, is a bad idea and can be very costly.
